The hardest part of being a self-employed writer isn’t the writing.
It’s the F.U.D.
Fear. Uncertainty. Doubt.
Not knowing where your next project is coming from can be scary.
But that’s also why I love it.
When the F.U.D. shows up, I’m ready.
Here’s how you can be ready, too.
Get the F.U.D. Outta Here
Most people crave certainty and security. And then there are those crazy entrepreneur types…
No matter which end of the spectrum you find yourself on, everybody experiences the F.U.D. from time to time.
How do you kill the F.U.D. and become unstoppable? Here are some ideas.
1) Dealing with fear
I recently spotted a Tony Robbins quote that got me thinking.
When you are grateful fear disappears and abundance appears.
When you are grateful, your consciousness expands. You are able to see opportunities better because you aren’t focused on lack or scarcity.
Gratitude helps you focus.
How do you become more grateful, and ergo, more focused?
Here are a couple of ideas that cost next to nothing:
- Call a friend and thank them for their friendship
- Call your parents and thank them for raising you
- Thank your boss for being so cool (even if he isn’t)
Try it. It works.
2) Dealing With Uncertainty
“Where am I going and how long will it take to get there?” The not knowing can feel like torture.
You might have heard that the best way to predict the future is to create it (Can’t remember who said it, too lazy to google it). It’s true.
Take action until something happens. But not just any action. Take massive action. When you’re determined to make something happen, something usually does.
3) Dealing With Doubt
Doubt is normal. “I’m not sure if I can do this…” is a normal feeling. When you’re grinding hard but don’t see results quickly, it’s easy to get caught up in an endless circle of self-doubt. There have been many days when I’ve questioned my sanity.
Going after your dreams is hard. That’s why it’s so important to have faith.
I can’t explain it, but faith works. When you press on and believe in yourself no matter what, other people will believe in you, too.
Have faith that what you’re doing is producing the results you seek. Things will happen.
Leaving F.U.D. Behind
So there you have it. Be grateful, take massive action, and have faith that it will all work out.
When you embrace this strategy, You’ll get where you want to go faster and have loads of fun in the process.
Leave F.U.D. behind. She was no good for you anyways.
